Some of you may know how expensive it can be to raise children. Not just feeding and housing them, but also the unexpected every day incidents, accidents and emergencies. The foster care system in Colorado is one of the better ones in the country yet these hero parents are often faced with the intense challenges of raising somebody else's child, even if just for a short time.
Foster parents receive a small amount of money from the state gov to cover some of the expenses but this is often too little for high quality living items. So many of these parents have to look for used beds and bedding. Often the kids come with very little clothing. They even sometimes come with heavy emotional and physical problems.
It can also be very difficult sometimes for new fosters to connect with the children and being outdoors can often help families bond by; easing minds, calming souls, and nurturing the inner child we all have. It's just begging to jump out and play in the trees, streams or the lakes.
We can help give these families a healthy outlet for fun, education and adventure that will not cut into any of those necessary expenses.
Every child deserves to catch a fish, roast a marshmallow, see the stars outside of the city lights, call to the coyotes and pee outside, thats right I said it!
We are only children for a short time and unfortunately for a lot of foster kids the road can be difficult and lead to many adult problems like substance abuse and incarceration. It only takes one positive influence in a kids life to change their trajectory and set them on constructive course.
Foster that change and be that influence, the future depends on us.
